Accreditation Volunteers

Passionate about quality special educator preparation programs? Able to contribute your expertise for at least a few hours a month? The Council for Exceptional Children is looking for candidates for its Accreditation Commission to serve either a two or three-year term beginning in January 2023.

The Accreditation Commission is CEC’s governance entity for accreditation related activities and is comprised of experts dedicated to holding institutions of higher education accountable for quality special educator preparation and to support the continuous improvement in the quality of professional preparation institutions offer.

The primary responsibilities of the Commission are to render accreditation decisions and to develop and implement the policies and procedures that govern CEC’s Accreditation. The Commission is also responsible for the training and oversight of other volunteer committees and workgroups.

The Commission is a volunteer entity, and Commissioners do not receive compensation for their work. They must recuse themselves from activities that are considered, or can be perceived as, a conflict of interest. 

CEC and the Accreditation Commission are committed to promoting and maintain a diverse volunteer base. Priority needs for volunteer representation are currently:

•    Is non-white/Caucasian

•    Is male, is nonbinary, or does not identify as female

•    Current or recent P12 practitioner
